Chemical Peels

Restore. Renew. Revitalize.

Different Types of Chemical Peels

A chemical peel involves the application of chemical solutions to the skin, effectively reducing surface blemishes on the face, décolletage and other applicable areas. The desired depth of the peel is dependent upon the condition the patient would like to correct. Once the surface layers of the skin have been removed with the chemical peel, the underlying healthy skin begins to regenerate, resulting in a smoother, brighter, more youthful appearance.

Chemical peels are categorized based on their depth. The three primary categories include superficial, medium, and deep. Superficial peels treat only the epidermis, the most outer layer of skin. Medium peels can penetrate past the epidermis, reaching the dermis. The deep peel being the strongest of the three can reach the deeper layers of the dermis. The range of depth depends on the type and concentration of the chemical solution and the length of time it is left on the skin.

During your in-depth consultation for a chemical peel in Scottsdale, your skin care professional will examine your skin and listen to your needs and personal desires. From this examination he will determine which type of chemical peel is best to treat your condition.

Some of the following conditions can be treated with a chemical peel:

Fine lines around the eyes (crows feet)

Wrinkles

Sun damage

Melasma
Mild Acne

Fine lines around the mouth

Mild scars

Results and Recovery

It takes about 3 days after a chemical peel for the peeling process to begin. You may experience some redness and tightness as the peel goes to work regenerating the damaged skin cells. The peeling and redness may last up to 2 weeks depending on the depth of the peel you received. It is also advised that patients avoid the sun for the first week and wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen and hat when going outside after a chemical peel has been administered.
