anti-aging results

What is DermaBlate?

As much as we want to escape the effects of aging, sun exposure, and other outside factors, unwanted skin blemishes are inevitable. Luckily, Scottsdale Skin Institute offers advanced fractional skin resurfacing to revitalize your skin and turn back the clock. Fractional skin resurfacing is a safe, effective, and non-invasive aesthetic laser procedure that uses light energy to deliver controlled treatment to your skin and triggers natural skin remodeling and collagen production.

The Astanza Dermablate offers an alternative to creams or CO2 lasers that reduces downtime and produces impressive anti-aging results. This advanced procedure has the power to correct deep frown lines and stretch marks, eliminate fine lines and wrinkles, tighten under eye bags, and stimulate collagen production through superficial treatment to meet and exceed your expectations.

How It Works

During a treatment, our Astanza MCL31 DermaBlate laser uses a MicroSpot handpiece that treats only a fraction of skin tissue. The laser beam is split into 169 partial rays in a 13 x 13 mm treatment area and ablates the upper skin layer, triggering skin renewal and collagen formation which is supported by the surrounding healthy skin tissue.

The handpiece emits energy over the desired area grid by grid until the entire surface area has been sufficiently treated. Patients will experience safer treatment, fewer unwanted side effects, and rapid wound healing that is significantly shorter compared to CO2 lasers.

The treatment feels similar to a sunburn and produces a small “chex mix” pattern on the skin. Small scabs will form, rapidly heal, and flake off naturally after just a few days thanks to the small size of each micro lens spot. Any sign of treatment will be practically undetectable up to three to seven days following treatment, depending on the desired effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which areas can I get treated?

The face, wrinkles around the eyes and mouth, pigmented lesions on the face, neck, chest, and hands, and generally any other areas with skin imperfections.

Is the laser safe?

Our Astanza DermaBlate is an FDA-cleared laser that is specifically designed to deliver safe ablation of the skin with extremely fast healing times. It’s trusted by leading dermatologists and physicians and its reliability and effectiveness have been proven worldwide. Furthermore, the DermaBlate offers a much safer approach than CO2 lasers on darker skin-toned patients, and chemical peels where treatments are more painful, and downtime much longer.

How many sessions are necessary?

Patients can see significant improvement to the skin after a single treatment. Multiple sessions spaced approximately 4-6 weeks apart can be applied for optimal results.

How long is the healing time?

The recovery time is dependent on the desired effect. Some treatments may take only a few hours to a day for complete recovery, while more aggressive treatments that target deeper skin damage may take up to a week. During the first 48 hours of more aggressive treatments, patients may experience a warm, sunburn-like sensation. Three to seven days following treatment, your skin will have a smooth appearance with a reddish color that can easily be concealed with light makeup. Compared to more aggressive CO2 laser treatment and chemical peels, fractional skin resurfacing treatments result in minimal downtime. Recovery is very fast and should not affect any daily or social activities.

What aftercare should I apply following treatment?

During the first 48 hours, a moisturizing cream or hyaluronic acid serums or masks can be applied to soothe the skin. Aquaphor is also recommended to prevent the formation of unsightly scabs. As always, apply sunscreen to the skin and avoid excessive sun exposure and activities.

Is the treatment painful?

The treatment is not painful and is well-tolerated by the majority of patients. Anesthesia is not required for this procedure.

What results are achieved?

After fractional skin resurfacing, your skin will appear tighter, smoother, and more refined. The appearance of deep wrinkles will weaken while fine lines will disappear altogether.

The Astanza DermaBlate

The Astanza DermaBlate is the industry standard for Erbium lasers. This superior technology is trusted by leading dermatologists and physicians as the world’s leading Erbium:YAG laser thanks to its reliability and effectiveness for highly precise laser skin resurfacing. The DermaBlate laser ablates the skin with a degree of precision that can be measured in microns, thus allowing a safe and gentle way to remove a wide variety of unwanted skin blemishes. The DermaBlate’s unique 2,940 nm wavelength matches the maximum peak of water absorption, which means the laser’s energy is entirely used for the rapid vaporization of water in tissue, which leads to an almost instant ablation of tissue. Compared to CO2 lasers, the DermaBlate produces a significantly shorter healing time and considerably less painful application thanks to its minimal thermal effects. Patients do not require any anesthesia for treatment and unwanted side effects are greatly reduced. The safety features of this erbium laser make it the superior choice for delicate areas such as the neck, face, chest, and hands.

The MicroSpot Handpiece

The DermaBlate’s MicroSpot handpiece is what sets Scottsdale Skin Institute apart from our competitors. This state-of-the-art technology reduces the healing recovery time to just a few days. Featuring a special microlens pattern with a 13 x 13 mm (0.5 x 0.5 in) spot made up of 169 microspots, the MicroSpot handpiece allows selective treatment of only a fraction of skin tissue.

This unique design triggers skin renewal and collagen formation with rapid wound healing which is supported by the untreated skin and promotes very minimal risk of side effects. The MicroSpot handpiece provides a unique level of precision and is ideal for smoothing out fine lines, eliminating wrinkles, tightening the skin, blending uneven pigmentation, minimizing large pores, and much more.
